The Ellington Women's Club has a goal to be of service to others, improve our social, cultural, physical environment, and to promote an appreciation of the arts. We strive to become responsible leaders in our community.
We are a local, 120 years young, not for profit club affiliated with the General Federation of Women's Clubs, the largest organization of volunteer women in the world. The motto, "Unity in Diversity" is fundamental to what it means to be a member of the Ellington Women's Club.
1. Friendship: In an increasingly impersonal world, The Ellington Women's Club provides one of the basic human needs - the need for friendship and fellowship. It is one of many reasons why our club began in 1895.
2. Opportunity to Serve: The Ellington Women's Club is a service club. This is one of the best reasons to become a member - the chance to do something for somebody else and to feel the self-fulfillment that comes in the process and return of that satisfaction to one's own life. It is very rewarding.
3. Fun: The Ellington Women's Club is fun. Every meeting is fun. Our club projects are fun. The service is fun!!
4. Entertainment: The Ellington Women's Club sponsors a broad range of fund-raising special events. This has included: All Things Ellington, Green River Band - a Creedence Clearwater Revival Tribute Concert, Elvis Tribute Concert, Antiquities Portraits, presentations by local media celebrity Diane Smith and University of Connecticut Assistant Basketball Coach Chris Daley, and Kandie Carle - "Victorian Lady".
5. Citizenship in the Community: Membership in the Ellington Women's Club makes one a better community citizen.
6. Nice People: Ellington Women's Club members, above all, are nice people. We are women who believe it is nice to be important but it is more important to be nice.
7. Personal Growth and Development: Membership in the Ellington Women's Club continues one's growth and education in human relations and personal development.
8. Continuing Education: Each month, at The Ellington Women's Club meeting, there is a program designed to keep one informed about what is going on in the community. Each meeting provides an opportunity to be both entertained and informed on a variety of timely topics.
